How Kimpton’s Honey Farms Actually Started

Updated: Apr 17

Most people see the rows of hives and think we’ve always been a “real” honey farm. Truth is, we started with a couple of hives and absolutely no idea what we were doing. It was supposed to be a small family project — something simple, something fun. You can guess how that went. One hive turned into a few more. A few more turned into weekends spent building boxes, fixing equipment, and wondering how we got here. Before long, the bees had us fully committed. They don’t ask permission; they just grow, and you either keep up or get left behind.

Somewhere along the way, it stopped being a hobby and became a family operation. My wife, my kids — everyone has had their hands in this. We’ve learned together, laughed at our mistakes, and kept going even when the bees reminded us who’s really in charge. This spring we moved everything onto pallets, built a mountain of new boxes, and got ready for our biggest season yet. It’s a lot of work, but it’s ours. And sharing this part of the story feels overdue.

Thanks for being here with us as we keep building something that started with curiosity and turned into a family business we’re proud of. Head over to our website and get yourself some honey 🍯 www.kimptonshoneyfarms.com
